A Viking village created for a film set beneath the peaks of Stokksnes. Alas never used for a film after running into financial difficulty. The buildings were very well built, with authentic ironwork, stone walls, water channels. The 1920’s concrete farm house disguised behind a gips and woodwork meant to look like a huge boulder. Unmanaged and rotting away, turf roofs falling in, and streams overflowing through structures and flooding the great halls and battlements. Very eerie and foreboding approaching in the low cloud, pouring with rain. The gabro mountains and scree slopes towering off into the murk.

This location was an absolute must on my list of shooting spots in Iceland. It is still hard to imagine the scale of this place and how beautiful it is from every angle. Unfortunately the weather didn't feel like cooperating all that much on this day and the sunset pictured in my mind turned into a grey and moody shot. Due to a tight schedule and changing weather I only had one chance to shoot this location. The black sand dunes and shoreline do make it a magical place. However, on the drive back to the hotel the weather took a huge turn and ended up likely being one of the worst drives of my life. With snow piling up on the roads up to the bumper, wind pushing the car sideways, and minimal visibility. 📸: Self timer on a tripod with a Nikon D40. Alone here. All of the tourist were on the other side of the bridge to get here so they could get pictures of vestrahorn, the mountain starting to appear in the right. The sand was so thick and a rich black color. The dunes appeared perfectly one by one and I laid on top of one for a few minutes, in awe of where I was in that moment. #iceland
